Mr. Bridges served his fellow co-op members as a representative on the board for more than 38 years.

Junior, as he is known to almost everyone, was honored during the 72nd annual meeting for his dedication, integrity selflessness and leadership to the governing body of BREC.  Bridges, who was Vice President of the Board had also served as Secretary of the Board earlier in his career.

Since 1972, Mr. Bridges was involved in numerous changes, innovations and improvements to Black River and the electric industry.  He helped steer the cooperative through times of explosive growth and technological changes.

Junior always faced challenges at the co-op with the same integrity, honesty and concern for members that he exhibited in his community.  Born and raised in Scopus, Junior served his country during World War II in the 3rd Infantry Division, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  Upon returning from the war, he farmed with his father and in 1948 he married his wife Eula.  They have three children and six grandchildren. In 1957, he became a partner in Bridges Store and Garage in Scopus.  Junior still farms with his son, Bud.

Mr. Bridges has served on several other Boards, including Woodland School Board, University of Missouri Extension Council, ASCS, VIP, and Mercantile Bank.  He is also a member of Trowel Lodge and a charter member of Scopus United Methodist Church.

We would like to extend our gratitude and sincere appreciation to Mr. Bridges for his willingness to serve, his dedication to the members and for his leadership to BREC.
